Šilo

A FEW WORDS ABOUT ŠILO

Tourist and maritime center Šilo is situated in bay of Stipanja. Šilo is newer settlement, which is mentioned for the first time in 1780. It assumes thet Šilo was built from Gorinci - people from Crikvenica and Senj who had their fields on these part of island Krk. These people built a few houses that they can sleep in time of working on fields. First house built family Car. In 1880. Šilo had 27 residents.

Tourism in Šilo started in beginning of 20th century. At first it was just a destination for excursions and only offer was in tavern "Gašpar Car". Tavern "Pećine" was opened in 1937. and it had 14 rooms.

People from Šilo celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary on August 15th each year. They organize swimming marathon, 3,8 km long, from Šilo to Crikvenica. These marathon si tradition in Šilo, and the first one was organized in 1910. Everyone can take part in these marathon.

Šilo is very popular destination for fishing and diving, also there is diving center "Neptun". Not far from Šilo, towards bay of Soline, at a depth of 30 meters is located the Greek ship Peltasis which sank in 1969. Ship is adequate for organized diver tours.

In Šilo we can find nice beaches, promenade and relaxing atmosphere. Also Šilo has great gastronomic offer where we can find traditional specialties.
