A FEW WORDS ABOUT KRK

From the early Middle Ages we can see traces of catering in the city of Krk, which continues to be the basis of city life. A café was mentioned for the first time back in 1763, whilst organized tourist attractions were being pursued as early as 1848. First guests in city of Krk were Czechs at the beginning of the 20th century. From that period until today Krk has become, with the number of new hotels and auto-camps, a very strong centre even at wider European levels.

The city of Krk is administrative, political, economic and religious centre of the island of Krk. In city of Krk we can find six hotels: Koralj, Lovorka; Dražica, Tamaris, Bor and Marina. Also we can find auto-camps Politin and Ježevac. In city of Krk are many restaurants where we can find famous Croatian specialties like lamb meat, fish and other traditional food.

Visitors have big choice of sport facilities. There are tennis courts, football field and bowling field. From Krk is every day organised excursion to the little franciscan island of Košljun, which is situated near Krk, in bay of Punat.

THE CULTURE

During the Summer months in city of Krk are organised many manifestations. The most famous is "Summer show" which is organised in Cathedral and Frankopan castle. In gallery Decumanus are exhibited many pictures from Croatian and inernational artists. On the day of St. Lawrence (8.-10. August) is organised a Krk fair which is a three-day open-air manifestation in the spirit of the Middle Age.

THE CLIMATE

City of Krk is known for its mild climate. Jugo (sirocco) is the most powerful wind which make waves up to 3 meters. In those rare moments big waves are great attraction for tourists. Average temperature in winter is 5ºC, and in Summer in August 27ºC.
